Terms & Conditions

Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 17 July 2026

1. About these terms

These Terms and Conditions explain the rules that apply when you use the HPI Check Scotland website, mobile app, customer account features, vehicle history reports, prepaid codes and related services.

By using our services or purchasing a report, you agree to these Terms and Conditions. Please read them before completing a purchase. If you do not agree to these terms, you should not use or purchase our services.

2. Who we are

HPI Check Scotland is a UK vehicle history check service. Our business address is 51 Langdale Road, Moodiesburn, Glasgow, G69 0BN.

You can contact us at info@hpicheck.scot.

3. What we provide

We provide online UK vehicle history reports using vehicle registration information and data obtained from third-party suppliers, public records and vehicle-data services.

Depending on the report selected and the information available for the vehicle, a report may include vehicle identity details, MOT and mileage information, finance indicators, police stolen indicators, write-off or salvage information, registration and keeper history, valuation information, technical specifications and other vehicle history data.

The contents and availability of individual data fields may vary according to the vehicle, its age, its history and the records available from our data suppliers.

4. Website, mobile app and web checkout

The HPI Check Scotland mobile app provides access to vehicle history checks, customer account features, saved reports, purchased credits, legal information and support links.

The app may open secure pages on hpicheck.scot for checkout, account verification, password reset, saved reports, legal pages and customer support. Purchases initiated through the app are completed using our website checkout and supported payment providers.

Before payment, you must confirm your agreement to these Terms and Conditions and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. This applies whether you purchase through the website or mobile app, as a guest or while signed in.

5. Customer accounts and security

You are responsible for providing accurate account information and for keeping your password, sign-in details, app access and prepaid codes secure.

You must not allow another person to access your account without permission or use an account, report credit or prepaid code that does not belong to them.

Please contact us promptly if you believe that your account, password or prepaid code has been accessed or used without permission. We may temporarily restrict access where reasonably necessary to protect an account, investigate suspected misuse or maintain the security of the service.

6. Registration and report selection

You are responsible for entering the correct vehicle registration mark and selecting the correct report type before completing a purchase or redeeming a credit.

Please check the registration carefully. A report generated for an incorrectly entered registration will normally be treated as supplied because vehicle-data charges may be incurred as soon as the report is requested.

If you believe a report was generated for the wrong registration because of a fault with our service rather than information entered by you, please contact us so that we can investigate.

7. Report accuracy and limitations

We aim to present vehicle information clearly and accurately. However, our reports depend on third-party databases, public records, DVLA-related information and external API suppliers. We do not control those underlying records and cannot guarantee that every external source will always be complete, current or free from error at the exact time a report is generated.

A vehicle report is a decision-support tool. It is not a guarantee of a vehicle's identity, condition, ownership, legal status, roadworthiness or suitability for purchase.

Before buying a vehicle, you should also inspect the vehicle and its VIN or chassis number, review the original V5C registration document and service history, confirm the seller's identity and authority to sell, check that any finance has been settled, arrange an independent mechanical inspection where appropriate and seek professional advice when needed.

Estimated values, performance figures, running costs, technical specifications and remapping figures are guides only. Actual values and results can vary.

8. Payments and prices

Prices are displayed before payment. Payments may be processed by Stripe, including supported card and digital-wallet methods such as Apple Pay or Google Pay where available, or by PayPal.

We do not store your full card number, card security code, digital-wallet password or PayPal login credentials. Payment processing is subject to the payment provider's own terms and privacy practices.

A purchase is complete when payment has been successfully authorised and the purchased report, credit or bundle has been made available. If a payment is declined, cancelled or reversed, the report or credits may not be issued or may be suspended while the payment status is investigated.

9. Prepaid codes, credits and bundles

A prepaid code or bundle allows the authorised holder to redeem the number and type of vehicle checks shown when it was purchased or issued. Each successful redemption deducts the applicable credit.

Codes and account credits must not be resold, transferred for commercial gain, shared publicly or obtained through unauthorised means. Some codes may be restricted to a particular customer account, email address, report type or expiry date.

You are responsible for keeping a prepaid code secure. We may suspend a code or account while we investigate suspected fraud, unauthorised access, payment reversal, technical error or misuse.

Credit balances and redemption history shown in an account are based on our recorded transaction and usage information. Please contact us if you believe a balance is incorrect.

10. Refunds and cancellation

Vehicle report data is normally requested from third-party suppliers immediately after a report is ordered or a credit is redeemed. Once a personalised report has been generated, supplier charges may already have been incurred and the service may already have been fully supplied.

Refunds are therefore not normally available merely because a customer changes their mind after a report has been generated. However, this does not affect any statutory rights or remedies that apply where a service has not been supplied with reasonable care and skill, has not been supplied as described, or where a refund is otherwise required by law.

Please read our Refund Policy for further information and contact us if you believe a report or payment is faulty, duplicated or unauthorised.

11. Acceptable use

You must use the website, app, reports, accounts and prepaid codes only for lawful purposes. You must not:

We may restrict or suspend access where reasonably necessary to investigate or prevent suspected misuse, fraud, security threats or unlawful activity. Where appropriate, we may also preserve relevant records and cooperate with payment providers, data suppliers or lawful authorities.

12. Intellectual property and report use

The HPI Check Scotland name, branding, website design, app, software, written content, report presentation and original materials are owned by or licensed to HPI Check Scotland and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

Purchasing a report gives you permission to view and use that report for your own lawful personal or internal business purposes. It does not transfer ownership of our systems, branding, software, database arrangements or report design.

You must not reproduce, republish, sell, commercially redistribute or create a competing database or service from our reports or website content without our prior written permission. You may share an individual report with a relevant buyer, seller, adviser, employee or customer where this is reasonable and lawful, provided that it is not altered or presented misleadingly.

13. Service availability and changes

We aim to keep the website, app, checkout, account area and report services available. However, temporary interruptions may occur because of maintenance, security work, software updates, hosting issues, payment-provider outages, data-supplier outages or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

We may make reasonable changes to the service to improve functionality, security, compatibility, legal compliance or data presentation. We will not use these terms to remove rights that have already arisen from a completed purchase.

We may discontinue a feature or service where reasonably necessary. Where this materially affects unused paid credits, we will consider an appropriate remedy in accordance with the circumstances and applicable law.

14. Liability and statutory rights

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

We are responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill or by our breach of these terms, subject to the limitations permitted by law.

We are not responsible for losses caused solely by inaccurate, incomplete, delayed or unavailable information supplied by an independent third-party data source where we have used reasonable care in selecting and presenting that information.

We are also not responsible for losses that arise because a customer entered an incorrect registration, ignored a clear warning in a report, failed to carry out reasonable additional vehicle checks, misused the service or relied on a report as a guarantee rather than as one part of a vehicle-purchase decision.

If you use our services wholly or mainly for business purposes, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential business losses, loss of profit, loss of business, loss of opportunity or business interruption except where liability cannot legally be excluded.

15. Privacy and personal information

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, retain, protect and share personal information when you use our website, app, payment facilities, accounts and support services.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms and Conditions to reflect changes to our services, suppliers, technology, payment methods or legal obligations. The latest version and its update date will be published on this page.

The terms in force when a purchase is completed will normally apply to that purchase. A later update will not retrospectively remove rights that have already arisen.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Scotland.

If you are a consumer, this does not affect any mandatory legal protections available to you under the law of the country in which you live, or any right you may have to bring proceedings in a court available to you under applicable consumer law.

Please contact us first if you have a complaint or dispute. We will review the matter and try to reach a fair resolution.
