HPI Check Scotland provides UK vehicle history check services through hpicheck.scot and the HPI Check Scotland mobile app.

For the purposes of UK data protection law, HPI Check Scotland is the data controller for the personal information described in this Privacy Policy.

2. The personal information we collect

Depending on how you use our services, we may collect and process:

• Vehicle registration numbers searched on our website or mobile app.
• Customer account information, including your name, email address and securely stored login information.
• Report type selected and report purchase details, whether you purchase as a guest or while signed in.
• Saved report information and purchase history associated with your account.
• Prepaid bundle codes, remaining credits and redemption history.
• Your name, email address, billing address and other payment contact details supplied through Stripe or PayPal checkout.
• Payment method, payment confirmation, transaction reference, payment status, amount, currency and payer contact information received from Stripe or PayPal.
• Technical information such as IP address, browser type, operating system, device type and basic website security logs.
• If you consent to optional measurement, Google Analytics information such as pages viewed, referring pages, approximate location, browser and device information, and interactions with the website.
• Your cookie choice, stored in your browser so the website can remember whether you accepted or declined optional measurement.
• Messages you send to us by email or through contact forms.

We do not collect or store your full payment card number, card security code, Apple Pay or Google Pay account password, or PayPal login credentials.

3. Using our mobile app

The HPI Check Scotland mobile app provides access to the same vehicle history check services available through hpicheck.scot.

The app may securely open website pages for checkout, password reset, saved reports, legal information and customer support.

When you use the mobile app, we may process account information, vehicle registrations searched, saved reports, payment references, transaction history and support messages so that we can provide our services, manage customer accounts, prevent misuse, investigate fraud, provide support and meet legal or accounting obligations.

You may request deletion of your account or certain personal information by contacting info@hpicheck.scot.

Some information may need to be retained where required by law or where necessary for accounting, fraud prevention, dispute resolution or service security.

4. Why we use your information

We use your information to:

• Provide vehicle history reports.
• Process payments and confirm successful purchases.
• Create and manage customer accounts.
• Create and manage prepaid bundle codes.
• Email prepaid codes and important service information.
• Provide customer support.
• Investigate payment queries and process refunds where appropriate.
• Help customers recover lost prepaid codes.
• Understand and improve website use where you have consented to optional analytics.
• Measure advertising performance where you have consented to advertising measurement.
• Prevent fraud, misuse and unauthorised access.

5. Our lawful basis for processing

You may withdraw your consent for optional analytics or advertising measurement at any time without affecting your ability to search for a vehicle, purchase a report or use your account.

6. Payment information

Payments are processed securely by Stripe, including Apple Pay and Google Pay where available, or by PayPal.

Authorised members of HPI Check Scotland may access transaction information within these secure payment-provider dashboards where necessary to:

• Verify payments.
• Provide customer support.
• Investigate suspected fraud.
• Resolve disputes or chargebacks.
• Process refunds.
• Meet legal or accounting obligations.

This information may include:

• Your name.
• Your email address.
• Your billing address.
• Your payment reference.
• The transaction status.
• The amount paid.
• The payment date.

HPI Check Scotland does not store your full payment card details or payment-account passwords.

Stripe and PayPal process payment information in accordance with their own privacy policies and security standards.

7. Vehicle data providers

To generate vehicle history reports, we send the vehicle registration number and selected report request to trusted vehicle data providers and API suppliers. These providers return vehicle information used to create your report.

8. Email communications

We may email you to:

• Deliver prepaid bundle codes.
• Respond to customer enquiries.
• Resolve payment issues.
• Provide important service information.
• Reply to support requests.

We do not sell or rent your email address to third parties.

9. How long we keep information

We only keep personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected.

Typical retention periods include:

• Customer account information while your account remains active and for a reasonable period afterwards where necessary.
• Payment, transaction and accounting records for up to six years, or longer where required by law.
• Report and prepaid-code records for as long as reasonably necessary for account access, customer support, fraud prevention and dispute handling.
• Website and security logs for as long as reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, diagnostics and troubleshooting.
• Support correspondence for as long as reasonably necessary to deal with enquiries and protect our legal interests.

Where information is no longer required, it will be securely deleted or anonymised where appropriate.

We may share relevant information with trusted organisations where necessary to operate HPI Check Scotland, including:

• Stripe and PayPal for payment processing.
• Apple Pay and Google Pay where used through Stripe.
• Vehicle data providers and API suppliers for report generation.
• Google, only where you have consented, for Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion measurement.
• Website hosting providers.
• Email delivery and communications providers.
• Technical support and security service providers.
• Professional advisers such as accountants or legal advisers.
• Regulators, law-enforcement agencies or courts where we are legally required to disclose information.

These organisations process information either on our behalf or as part of providing services necessary for HPI Check Scotland to operate.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

11. How we protect your information

Protecting your personal information is important to us. We are committed to taking appropriate technical and organisational measures to help safeguard the information we hold.

To help protect customer information, we:

• Use established payment providers including Stripe and PayPal.
• Do not store full payment card details.

Although no website, app or online service can guarantee absolute security, we take appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect the personal information we hold.

14. Cookies, analytics and advertising measurement

We use essential cookies and similar browser technologies where necessary for security, payments, customer sessions, account access and core website functionality. These essential technologies do not depend on consent for optional analytics.

With your permission, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the website. Where Google Ads conversion measurement is enabled for an advertising campaign, it may also be used to determine whether an advertisement led to a completed purchase.

We use Basic Consent Mode. Google Analytics and advertising measurement tags remain blocked until you actively select Accept on the Cookie Choices banner.

If you select Decline, the optional Google tags remain unloaded and no analytics or advertising-measurement data is sent to Google from our website.

Your Accept or Decline choice is stored in your browser so that it can be remembered across pages. You can reopen the Cookie Choices banner at any time using the Cookie settings button, or reset your choice by clearing the stored site data for hpicheck.scot in your browser.

Declining optional measurement does not prevent you from searching for a vehicle, purchasing a report or using your account.

We do not currently send customer email addresses to Google for Enhanced Conversions, Customer Match or advertising audience uploads. If this changes, we will update this policy and implement any additional consent requirements before using those features.
